Ammoudara is the most visited beach in Heraklion prefecture, drawing well over a million visitors annually. The western end tends to be quieter, while the eastern section near the city is more animated. Parking is ample, and public buses connect Ammoudara directly to Heraklion city centre. Nearby, the village of Ammoudara offers a range of accommodation options and restaurants serving fresh Cretan cuisine. The beach is accessible for wheelchair users along certain sections, making it one of the most inclusive beaches in the region.
