Hersonissos – Crete's Premier Party and Resort Beach
The most famous party resort beach in Crete, 28 km east of Heraklion, with extensive watersports, nightlife, and a lively promenade.
Hersonissos is one of the most well-known and visited beach resorts in all of Crete, located approximately 28 kilometres east of Heraklion. The main beach stretches along the northern coast and is fully organised with sunbeds, umbrellas, watersports facilities, and diving clubs. The resort is famous for its vibrant nightlife, with dozens of bars, clubs, and restaurants lining the main street and beachfront promenade. During the summer months, Hersonissos attracts a predominantly young international crowd, and the atmosphere is lively and energetic both day and night. The waters are clear and suitable for swimming, and the watersports offerings are among the most extensive in the region, including jet skiing, parasailing, banana boat rides, and water skiing. The resort also has a number of family-friendly attractions, including the Star Beach water park and various mini-golf and go-kart facilities. The Minoan Palace of Malia, one of the most important archaeological sites in Crete, is located just a few kilometres to the east and makes for an excellent cultural excursion. Despite its reputation for nightlife, Hersonissos also has quieter corners and smaller coves that offer a more relaxed beach experience for those who seek it.
